Khaberni - In the world of politics, a picture can say what a thousand words and an official statement do not. This was illustrated by a post published by Stephen Chung, the White House Communications Director, on his account on platform "X" on Wednesday, in which he wrote: "Minister Rubio shines in a Nike Tech (Venezuela edition) suit aboard the presidential plane!"
The posting was accompanied by a picture of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wearing a Nike Tech tracksuit.
The photo quickly spread like wildfire on social media platforms, and it topped the headlines of the American press. The reason for the buzz was not the minister's elegance but the "deep political symbolism" of the tracksuit he was wearing.
Observers quickly noticed that the suit Rubio wore matched exactly the one that former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was wearing at the moment of his arrest by the American authorities on January 3, 2026.
This visual link moved the image from the context of a candid shot to a context of intended political display.
The momentum of the image was further boosted by a coinciding post from President Donald Trump on his platform "Truth Social" at roughly the same time, where he posted a map of Venezuela with an American flag on it, describing it as "the 51st state."
This coinciding of the "suit picture" and "Trump's map" led the public on social media platforms to question the meanings and messages that Trump and his Secretary of State intended to convey as they headed to the Chinese capital, Beijing.
