Khaberni - In an incident that shook the Egyptian street, social media users in Egypt circulated a video clip of a girl, not older than four years old, thrown on the street alone with her clothes bag and toys, in a state of collapse and crying.
The video clip showed the little girl sitting on the street next to two bags containing her clothes, toys, and other items, with visible severe bruising on her face and neck. According to the circulating narrative, her mother threw her into the street after her second husband refused to have her in the house.
Subsequently, an individual filmed a video of the girl in her miserable state, documenting her injuries and asked anyone who recognizes her to inform her relatives to come and take her.
Her father recognized her
During the circulated clip, the girl was asked about the identity of the person who beat her and caused the injuries, to which she replied: "Islam." Given her young age, it was not clear who this person was or if they were one of her relatives. The locals then headed to the Omrania police station to hand over the girl to the authorities and protect her until her relatives arrived to collect her.
Photos of the girl widely spread on social media helped her father, who is separated from her mother, to recognize her and go to the station to retrieve her, where pictures of the girl with her father showed a measure of relief and reassurance.
So far, no statement has been issued by the authorities about the details and circumstances of the incident.
It is worth mentioning that the incident caused an uproar on social media in Egypt, where many expressed sympathy for the young girl and were astonished by her mother's action of throwing her out into the street in this manner. Others demanded the arrest of the girl's mother and anyone who harmed her, and called for necessary measures to protect her.
Many also called for stricter penalties for parents found guilty of abusing children or putting them at risk. They affirmed that what happened to the girl constitutes a gross violation of children's rights and requires immediate intervention from the relevant authorities to ensure the girl's psychological and physical safety, and to hold those responsible accountable according to the law.
