After 8 years of stability A wellstudied adjustment to transport fares rebalances the sector

Khaberni - The Land Transport Regulatory Authority will adjust the public transport fares such that the increase covers about 75% of the routes by approximately 5 piasters, while an increase of about 10 piasters will be applied to approximately 25% of the longer routes, within a step aimed at rebalancing the operating costs and service continuity, with consideration of the direct impact on users.

In this context, the taxi fare adjustment will be coordinated with the relevant entities, taking into account the specificities of each governorate, while the land freight sector continues to operate according to a floating mechanism linked to fuel prices, allowing flexibility in dealing with changes without the need for frequent interventions.

This adjustment comes after about 8 years of fare stability since 2018, despite the continuous rise in operating costs, due to the significant increase in oil prices, which gradually led to widening the gap between the actual costs and the level of wages in practice.

The adjustment process was based on classifying routes into short, medium, and long, ensuring the distribution of the increase in a gradual and proportionate manner according to the nature of each route and its operating costs, where the longer routes naturally bear higher operational costs.

This distribution reflects an approach towards reducing the impact on the daily use of citizens, taking into account the differences between the routes in terms of distance and operating costs.

The decision aims at maintaining the continuity of public transport services and preventing their decline by achieving a well-studied balance between the social aspect and operational requirements, ensuring the sustainability of the sector and its ability to respond to changes.
