Khaberni - In recent years, US President Donald Trump has faced several assassination attempts, alongside a series of other security threats and plots that targeted him, amid rising political and security tensions within the United States.
In this context, US media outlets reported, on Saturday evening local time in the United States and early Sunday morning in Mecca time, that President Trump was evacuated from a White House correspondents' dinner after a shooting incident at the event site. According to reports, protection teams quickly intervened to secure the president and move him away from danger.
Following the incident, Trump said in a press conference that "tonight's incident is not the first of its kind and assassination attempts are recurring," indicating that the Secret Service quickly apprehended the shooter.
Trump emphasized the swift response of the security personnel was "amazing," as they fired shots as soon as the attacker was detected, which prevented the situation from worsening. He noted that preliminary investigations suggested that the perpetrator acted alone without any accomplices.
Trump acknowledged some security lapses, pointing out that the event building "was not sufficiently secure," and confirmed that the relevant authorities reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The American president urged all citizens to "recommit to resolving political conflicts in peaceful ways, away from violence," considering the event should be a motivator for national unity, not a reason for further division.
September 2024
On September 15, 2024, while President Trump was playing golf at his private course in Florida, a Secret Service agent claimed that a man was hiding among the trees with a rifle, and security personnel chased him but he escaped, later suspected to be the American activist Ryan Wesley Roth.
The authorities arrested Roth after pursuing him and then detained him for further investigation proceedings. The American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) described the incident as "apparently an assassination attempt."
The documents revealed that the suspect was carrying an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle with an obliterated serial number, equipped with an ammunition magazine, a GoPro camera, along with files that recorded Trump's movements in the months leading up to the event.
July 2024
On July 13, 2024, a young man named Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in the president being injured in his ear and one participant killed, and two others seriously wounded, before Crooks was fatally shot by security.
American media outlets reported that Crooks was positioned on the roof of a factory about 120 meters from the platform.
The local police found explosive materials in a car owned by Crooks, parked near the venue of the electoral rally in Pennsylvania.
They added that the rifle used by Crooks in the assassination attempt had been purchased by his father.
Most US presidents have been exposed to assassination attempts, four of whom were killed, others survived with non-fatal injuries, and another segment had assassination plots against them uncovered and thwarted by the American Intelligence Agency (CIA) before they could be executed.
