Khaberni - President Donald Trump said that the shooting incident that occurred in the capital during the White House Correspondents' Dinner is not believed to be related to Iran, confirming that the investigations will determine the circumstances, and emphasizing that the perpetrator acted alone and was not supported by any party, considering that what happened falls within "repeated assassination attempts" and called for it to be a motivation for national unity.
"In my opinion, he was a lone wolf," he described the man as "mentally disturbed," adding that he does not feel there is any reason to believe that the attack is related to the war in Iran.
Trump stated that the Secret Service stopped the shooter who tried to breach the security measures during the event, noting that the gunman was "quickly arrested," and that one of the security personnel was injured but is "fine."
He added that "the circumstances surrounding the incident were reviewed," considering that the event location "was not particularly secure," urging Americans to resolve political differences peacefully away from violence.
Trump said that the attacker was "a very sick person" and that such incidents should not be repeated, noting that security authorities raided his apartment in California after arresting him in Washington.
He continued, stating that the attacker "did not reach our area," and that security forces were able to neutralize him from a distance, pointing out that they tried to convince the Secret Service to continue the event but they refused, confirming that the dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.
He mentioned that "one cannot surrender to anxiety to the extent that it impedes the ability to perform and work," pointing out that his profession falls within the category of dangerous jobs, confirming that he lives a normal life and deals with stress in the best possible way, and that he is not the type to collapse under pressure.
He also explained that the hotel in Washington which hosted the dinner is not a particularly "safe facility," speaking about the Washington Hilton which has hosted major political events since its opening in 1965, as he said, "We looked at all the circumstances that happened tonight, and I will say, as you know, it is not a particularly secure building."
