Khaberni - Brigadier Raed Al-Assaf, Director of Traffic Management at the Public Security Directorate, stated that the directorate has launched a new awareness initiative based on the display of vehicles that have been involved in serious traffic accidents in public places, aiming to create a "real visual shock" for drivers, which helps in modifying their traffic behavior and reducing accidents.
Al-Assaf added on Thursday that the initiative is part of an awareness approach "based on scientific foundations" aimed at enhancing traffic safety levels, protecting lives and properties, and boosting citizens' awareness.
He explained that the first phase of the initiative focuses on speed-related accidents, pointing out that the traffic statistical analysis for the year 2025 showed that the proportion of speed-related accidents out of the total accidents was 3.1%, resulting in 13 deaths.
He indicated that the selection of vehicle display locations is not always permanent, as they are displayed at the site for a period ranging from 6 to 8 months, before being moved to other locations. This is accompanied by studies to measure the impact and analyze the results, whether in terms of accidents or traffic violations.
Al-Assaf confirmed that the Public Security Directorate relies on a "systematic scientific work" based on studying the effects and lessons learned from the initiatives, with the aim of enhancing the positives and addressing the negatives.
He noted that the initiative will be implemented on three roads during the first phase, with the possibility of future expansion based on the results, pointing out that accidents are not only related to speed, but also include other violations such as using the phone while driving and running red lights.
He emphasized the importance of drivers adhering to traffic rules, asserting that every traffic accident has a preventable cause through proper driving behavior.
