Khaberni - On the twenty-fifth anniversary of the passing of the great Jordanian national leader, Field Marshal Habis Al-Majali, who God took after a distinguished military life, during which he and his comrades-in-arms recorded remarkable victories in history on the lands of Jordan and Palestine and was known for his national character that deeply entrenched both its place and its achievements in the Jordanian Arab Army and in defending the lands of Jordan and Palestine.
Field Marshal Habis, son of Sheikh Arifan Al-Majali, was born in Ma'an in 1910, and passed away on April 22, 2001. He received his elementary education at Karak School, then secondary education at Al-Salt Secondary School. After graduating from school in 1932, he joined the army and rose through the ranks until he became Field Marshal and General Commander of the Army. Majali led a Jordanian Army battalion in the Battle of Latrun during the 1948 war and then in Bab al-Wad in Jerusalem, where the brave Jordanians fought two fierce battles against the Israeli gangs, achieving a decisive victory in Latrun where the Israeli losses were counted by the hundreds, and a large number of their forces were captured, including Ariel Sharon, who later became the Prime Minister of the occupation, and who was taken to a prisoner-of-war camp in Mafraq. This battle, in addition to the battle of Bab al-Wad, was decisive in protecting East Jerusalem from the clutches of occupation. Abu Satam, may God have mercy on him, was one of the early generation men, where he climbed through the military service ranks from 1932 until he became the General Commander of the Army in 1958, the Minister of Defense in 1969, and the Military Governor and General Commander of the Army in 1970.
It is noteworthy that the museum of Field Marshal Habis Al-Majali, located in his last residence in Abdali, Amman, is open all year round and displays the possessions of the national icon and stages of his life. It also actively participates in hosting national and cultural events that chronicle Jordan and its personalities, contributing to the immortalization of Jordan's history and enhancing the documentation of the Jordanian narrative, Jordan: A Story of Land and People.
