From Nature We Nourish Our Livestock
الكاتب: الدكتور زيد احمد المحيسن

This year, Jordan experienced heavy rainfall that created a state of blessing and bounty across various regions of the nation, where valleys were filled, streams flowed, and springs revived after a period of relative drought that had afflicted the land. This blessed rain has noticeably revived nature; the land awakened anew and shook green, revealing its hidden treasures of wild and medicinal herbs and multicolored flowers covering mountains, plains, and valleys.
This natural bounty was not just a beautiful scene pleasing to the eye, but turned into a rich and direct food source for the livestock, as sheep and cattle began to graze in these natural pastures provided by the rains, benefiting from the variety, density, and high nutritional value of the herbs. Moreover, these green surroundings have become a reason for people to venture out into nature on trips and to relax, enjoying the beauty of the homeland in its finest forms, especially in the northern areas which were distinguished this season by dense and diverse vegetation.
From here emerges a practical and implementable idea, represented in the need to take advantage of this large natural stock of wild herbs through an organized initiative adopted by an agricultural association or a company specializing in the agricultural sector. This initiative would involve collecting part of these herbs during their dense growth seasons, and drying or preserving them scientifically, to later use them as natural feed for livestock during droughts or when pastures are scarce.
If implemented thoughtfully and sustainably, such a step could achieve significant economic and environmental benefits, as it would help reduce reliance on costly industrial feed, thereby easing the financial burden on livestock breeders and enhancing the stability of this vital sector. Moreover, investing in local natural resources reflects a more conscious vision in managing environmental wealth rather than wasting it or leaving it unused.
In Jordan, nature is generous enough to be a source of food and support for both humans and animals, and if we use this divine gift wisely, we would have taken an important step towards sustainable farming and a more balanced agricultural economy, linking the land and its products with the needs of society.
From nature we nourish our livestock, and from its bounties, we build a future less dependent on imports and more in harmony with the resources and rich natural environment of our homeland..
