Khaberni - It is expected that the water pumping within the national carrier project will begin in 2030, forming a main tributary in enhancing national water security, as the project will provide about 40% of the drinking water needs in the Kingdom.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan witnessed the signing of the final technical and legal agreement for the national carrier project, in preparation for concluding the financial closure next July.
The project is the first of its kind globally, as it integrates the desalination of 300 million cubic meters of seawater annually and pumping systems for elevations up to 1100 meters above sea level through pipes extending for about 450 kilometers, in addition to heavily relying on renewable energy according to the latest technologies.
These quantities of water are close to the total capacity of all the Kingdom's dams and are about three times what the Disi project produces. They will contribute to increasing the water supply rate and doubling the annual per capita share, as well as increasing the number of water supply days to three days a week in various governorates of the Kingdom.
