Khaberni - The National Carrier Project Manager, Saddam Khleifat, confirmed on Tuesday that the water specification produced by the national carrier would be within the approved water specifications in Jordan, despite the difference in the source.
Khleifat explained during his talk on the "Voice of the Kingdom" program, that Jordan used to rely on groundwater and surface water, while the project will constitute a new source represented by seawater. He pointed out that the existing water system relies on mixing different sources due to their diversity, which necessitated studying the most suitable option to achieve a uniform water quality for all citizens.
He noted that citizens will actually feel the water with the beginning of pumping at the end of 2030, pointing out that distribution will be fair among the governorates according to needs, based on studies of water gap and shortage that showed disparities in water quantities between regions.
He confirmed that the project aims to increase the individual's share to 100 liters per day for each citizen, compared to the current rates.
Regarding guarantees, Khleifat clarified that there are contractual, financial, and technical warranties obligatory for the developers and financiers, including warranties and guarantees provided to ensure the project is executed according to the required specifications, explaining that these warranties are necessary in projects of this size to avoid any delays that may affect the progress or cost of the project.
Khleifat emphasized that the project will contribute to preserving the groundwater that has been affected by excessive use over the past years, which led to a decrease in its levels, increased production costs, and deterioration in water quality, in addition to its impact on some agricultural and industrial sectors.
He added that the National Carrier Project represents a sustainable water source, which is likely to support the gradual recovery of groundwater over the coming years, especially if the rainy seasons improve.
