Iran Announces Full Opening of the Strait of Hormuz

Khaberni  - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced today, Friday, that Tehran will fully open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels for the remaining period of the ceasefire.

Araghchi added in a post on the X platform, that ships transiting the strait "will proceed through the coordinated and pre-announced route by the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization."

The Iranian minister indicated that this step is in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, which was announced by US President Donald Trump yesterday, Thursday, for a period of 10 days and came into effect at midnight on Friday.

Iran has insisted, through multiple positions it has taken, on stopping Israeli strikes on Lebanon as part of the ceasefire talks between it and the United States.

Trump: Thank you, and the blockade continues

Immediately after the Iranian announcement, Trump confirmed through his platform "Truth Social" that the Strait of Hormuz is fully ready for passage, adding "Tehran has just announced that the Strait is fully open and ready for complete passage."

At the end of his post, Trump said "thank you," though it was unclear whether it was directed at Iran or his followers. CBS News and the Financial Times reported that the American president was thanking Tehran for its move.

In a subsequent post, the American president stated that the naval blockade will remain in place "with regard to Iran only until our dealings with them are 100% complete."

Trump confirmed in statements early Friday that "the war in Iran will end very soon," emphasizing that the US military performance was "perfect."

He had earlier confirmed that he had excellent discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that the two leaders agreed to begin the truce.

Trump added "I had the honor of ending 9 wars around the world and this will be the tenth war," indicating that he directed his vice president J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Mark Rubio, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kin to work with Israel and Lebanon to "achieve lasting peace."

Immediate Economic Repercussions

The London Stock Exchange Group confirmed a drop of about 10% in "Brent crude" following the announcement of the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while The Wall Street Journal confirmed a drop in oil prices driven by Iran's recent announcement.
