Google Enhances Chrome with a New Smart Feature

Khaberni - Google announced the addition of new AI-supported capabilities to Chrome through an innovative feature named "Skills", which allows users to save smart commands (Prompts) and reuse them easily across different web pages.

This step is part of integrating the Gemini AI model within the browser, amid intensifying competition with new AI-powered browsers from companies like "OpenAI", "Perplexity", and "The Browser Company".

"Skills" provides a more advanced experience compared to traditional AI usage, as users can create custom commands and save them, then run them later with a single click without needing to retype them each time.

For example, if a user regularly requests suggestions for plant-based alternatives while browsing food recipes, they can save this request as a "Skill" and use it automatically across different sites, according to a report published by "Tech Crunch".

These saved tasks can be accessed through the chat history, then replayed within Gemini in Chrome by typing the symbol (/) or pressing the (+) button, to function directly on the opened page or even across several tabs at the same time.

Google also allows editing these commands at any time, to suit the user’s needs.

Initial tests have shown that users employ this feature in multiple areas, such as health and nutrition — like calculating nutritional values — in addition to comparing prices while shopping, or quickly summarizing long documents.

To facilitate use, the company also launched a ready-made library of "Skills", comprising common tasks in productivity, shopping, and budget management areas, which users can easily add and customize.

As with the rest of the Gemini tools inside Chrome, the feature will request user approval before executing sensitive actions, such as sending an email or adding an event to the calendar.

"Skills" is scheduled to gradually reach Chrome users on desktops, provided they are logged into a "Google" account, to operate initially in English (United States) only.
