China calls for ensuring the security of navigation in Hormuz and denies helping Iran militarily

Khaberni - On Monday, China called for ensuring the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and for compliance with the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, also denying reports of its intention to provide military support to Tehran.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, during a press conference in Beijing, called for calm and restraint concerning navigation in the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions related to control over navigation.

Guo emphasized the necessity of a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities to ensure the security of navigation in the strait, stressing that maintaining the security of the Strait of Hormuz and its safety serves the common interests of the international community.

He also expressed his country's readiness to work with all parties to ensure the continuation of energy supplies without obstacles, noting that the strait represents a crucial passage for international trade and energy, and that the free passage of goods should be ensured without any hindrance.

He called for adherence to ceasefire arrangements, and the need for political and diplomatic efforts to avoid any escalation or conflict, emphasizing the importance of restoring stability and peace to the region.

Regarding reports about China's intention to provide military support to Iran, Guo clarified that his country adopts a "wise and responsible" stance towards military exports.

The Chinese spokesperson confirmed that reports of providing military equipment or dual-use (civil and military) components aim to tarnish China's reputation.

In response to a question about US President Donald Trump's threat to impose 50% tariffs on Beijing if it provided military support to Iran, he replied that there are no winners in an economic war.

Later today, Reuters reported from the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi saying that blocking the Strait of Hormuz to prevent the movement of Iranian ships does not serve the common interests of the international community.
