Khaberni - The general consumer price index (inflation) for last March was 1.87% compared to the corresponding month of 2025, and it was 0.76% (less than one percentage point) compared with February of the same year, according to the monthly report from the Department of Statistics.
On a cumulative level, the inflation for the first three months of the current year was 1.36%, compared to the same period in 2025 when the inflation was 2.0%.
Regarding commodity groups, the rise in the general consumer price index for March 2026 compared to the same month in 2025 was primarily due to increases in the prices of the "personal luggage" group by 34.76%, and "vegetables, dry and canned legumes" by 15.87%, and "oils and fats" by 14.91%, and "tea, coffee, and cocoa" by 11.91%, and "fruits and nuts" by 4.67%.
Meanwhile, the prices of the "meat and poultry" group decreased by (3.34%), "home appliances" by (2.68%), "fuel and lighting" by (1.49%), and "fish and seafood products" by (1.36%), according to the report.
Comparing the cumulative consumer price index for the first three months of the current year with the same period in 2025, the index for the "personal luggage" group rose by 37.85%, and "oils and fats" by 14.10%, and "tea, coffee, and cocoa" by 11.96%, and "fruits and nuts" by 4.70%, and "tobacco and cigarettes" by 3.99%. Meanwhile, the groups "meat and poultry", "home appliances", "fuel and lighting", and "home maintenance services" recorded declines of 6.86%, 3.07%, 1.49%, and 1.08% respectively.
