Agricultural Material Producers Jordan exports fertilizers seeds and pesticides to 80 countries

Khaberni - Saleh Al-Yassin, the head of the Syndicate of Agricultural Material Traders and Producers, stated on Sunday that Jordan exports fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides to 80 countries.

Al-Yassin explained to "Al-Mamlaka" that there are 48 conversion fertilizer factories, 32 seed production companies, and 25 pesticide factories in Jordan.

Regarding the impact of the Iran war on agricultural production inputs, he confirmed that Jordan is able to control the consequences because it is a phosphate and potash producing country, and farmers use fertilizers correctly and enjoy quality in pesticide usage, which helps them to adapt in these circumstances.

However, he clarified that all production inputs dependent on oil will see an increase in prices.

He pointed out that fertilizers are chemical substances extracted from natural materials like phosphate, phosphorus, and potash, and contain one or more compounds needed by plants.

He mentioned that fertilizers contribute to increasing agricultural production, which reflects the amount of food available globally to meet people's needs.

He noted that there are several types of fertilizers produced by Jordan and their prices have not been significantly affected, but he added that there is one type that is imported from Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
He continued that Jordan consumes about 200,000 tons of this fertilizer, which has seen a price increase due to the war, adding that countries like India have issued large tenders to import a significant quantity of this fertilizer, which leads to a price increase.

He also mentioned that the rise in oil derivative prices also contributes to the rise in fertilizer prices due to increased shipping costs.

He anticipates that the price increase will reflect on the farmer by about 20% to 25% per ton.
