Defection of a prominent Rapid Support Forces officer and his joining the Sudanese army

Khaberni - Sudanese media announced the defection of a senior officer in the Rapid Support Forces, Major General Al-Noor Ahmed Adam, known as "Al-Noor Al-Qubba", and his joining the Sudanese army, while the army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan issued decisions to retire dozens of senior officers and promote others.

In a move that reminded of the earlier defection of the former Rapid Support leader Abu Aqila Kekel, Al-Noor Al-Qubba's breakaway from "the support" came, but in a more complex and intertwined context, as he is not an ordinary leader. He participated in pivotal battles in Khartoum, Al Gezira, and Darfur, and was among the leaders who contributed to the decisive battle of Al-Fasher, the capital of South Darfur Province in favor of the support.

Al-Noor Al-Qubba belongs to the social forces that form a strong backbone for the Rapid Support Forces, making his breakaway transcend the military to the social, placing him at the heart of the tribal balances that constitute one of the pillars of these forces.

His defection is also linked to previous tensions, stemming from the Rapid Support Forces' targeting of the Mistryaha area, a stronghold of the tribal leader Musa Hilal, and his escape to Port Sudan, followed by fractures within the social fabric of the support.
