YouTube Raises Subscription Prices in the US New Increases Put Pressure on Users

Khaberni - YouTube platform raised its subscription prices in the United States on Friday, with the new increases, which reach up to 4 dollars, coming into effect with the next billing cycle.

The video platform owned by Alphabet said that the price for an individual “YouTube Premium” subscription will rise to $15.99 per month, compared to $13.99 previously, while the cost for the family plan will increase by about $4 to $26.99 per month.

The “YouTube Lite” plan will cost $8.99 per month, while the subscription for “YouTube Music Premium” independently increased by one dollar to $11.99 per month, according to Reuters.

This price review is YouTube's first in the American market in three years, coming after a series of developments in subscription services, since the launch of “YouTube Premium” for the first time in 2018, which came as an enhanced version of the “YouTube Red” service that appeared in 2015.

This move is part of a broader wave of price increases on digital streaming platforms, where “Spotify” raised its subscription prices in the United States at the beginning of this year, and both “Netflix” and “Disney+” have adjusted their subscription fees, as companies seek to offset rising operating and content costs.

A YouTube spokesperson said: “This change allows us to maintain features valued by users, such as ad-free viewing, background play, and a library containing more than 300 million songs on YouTube Music.”

Last year, YouTube announced that the services of “YouTube Premium” and “YouTube Music” combined had surpassed 125 million subscribers globally, compared to about 100 million in 2024.
