Khaberni - A potential historic scenario for a record number of Premier League "Premier League" clubs qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League is emerging.
The current edition of the tournament saw 6 English teams qualify at once, the top 5 in the competition rankings, alongside Tottenham the winner of last season's Europa League.
If the results go perfectly for the English clubs during the current season, we may see 7 Premier League teams in the Champions League next season.
The regulations stipulate that the top four teams in the top five leagues qualify directly for the UEFA Champions League, and with the expansion of the tournament to 36 teams, additional seats are awarded to the two best leagues.
The Premier League has secured an additional spot in the UEFA Champions League, making the number of qualifiers from the Premier League for next season's European tournament 5 teams.
This increase came thanks to Arsenal's win over Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the quarterfinals yesterday Tuesday, which put England at the top of the UEFA coefficient ranking, thereby granting it an automatic additional seat.
If an English team wins the Champions League or Europa League title and was not among the qualifying spots in the league, it would obtain an additional seat, potentially raising the number to six or seven teams.
For example, if Liverpool wins the Champions League and is outside the top four, it would participate alongside the top 5 teams, in addition to the guaranteed fifth seat.
The same rule will be applied to the winner of the Europa League, which could increase the number to 7 English teams in the Champions League.
Currently, both Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are competing in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.
