India buys Iranian oil for the first time in 7 years without payment issues

Khaberni - The Indian Oil Ministry said on Saturday that the country's refineries bought Iranian oil amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that has disrupted supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
India, the world's third largest importer and consumer of oil, had not received any shipments from Tehran since May 2019, following U.S. pressure not to purchase Iranian crude oil. However, supply disruptions resulting from the war waged by the United States and Israel have severely impacted the South Asian country.
The Oil Ministry said in a post on the X platform: "In light of the disruptions from the Middle East, Indian refineries have met their crude oil needs, including from Iran, and there are no obstacles in payments for importing Iranian crude."

Last month, the United States temporarily lifted sanctions imposed on Iranian oil and refined products to ease supply shortages.
The ministry mentioned that India has secured its full crude oil needs for the coming months.
It stated, "India imports crude oil from over 40 countries, and companies have full flexibility in sourcing oil from various geographic sources and regions based on commercial considerations."
India also purchased 44,000 tons of Iranian LPG loaded onto a sanctioned vessel. The ministry said the vessel, which docked at Mangalore port in the west of the country on Wednesday, is unloading the fuel.
