Khaberni - Reuters news agency reported that Argentina has decided to expel the Iranian chargé d'affaires from the country.
The decision came less than 24 hours after the Argentine presidency announced in a statement that the country had classified the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, following pressure from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump on allies to do so.
Argentina attributed this action to the Revolutionary Guard’s support for the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which it accuses of carrying out the deadliest bombing in its history, a 1994 attack on a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and injured hundreds.
The presidential office stated that this action allows for the imposition of financial sanctions and other operational restrictions.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is an elite military force aimed at protecting the rule of Shiite clerics in Iran and controls large sectors of the Iranian economy.
The United States and other countries already classify the Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations.
