Khaberni - The decision by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to rescind its approval for the appointment of the Iranian ambassador and requested his departure from Lebanese territory has brought an old video back into the spotlight.
Accounts on social media circulated a video clip which they claimed documented members of the Lebanese army pulling the Iranian ambassador and expelling him from Lebanon.
The video received widespread interaction, and it was circulated as documenting a recent incident linked to political developments in Lebanon and its relationship to the war.
Upon verification, it was found that the video is old and the accompanying narrative is incorrect and misleading.
The verification showed that the clip dates back to May 2022, and documents an incident of assault on a citizen in Beirut, and has no relation to the Iranian ambassador or any recent diplomatic incident.
An Iranian diplomatic source -to the French Press Agency- reported that the appointed Iranian ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheybani, will remain in Lebanon after the deadline granted by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to leave the country has expired, following the withdrawal of approval for his appointment.
The unnamed Iranian diplomatic source stated that "the ambassador will not leave Lebanon, complying with the wishes of the Speaker of the House Nabih Berri and Hezbollah."
