Khaberni - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf mocked the statements of the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who claimed that Iran would have become "a different country" if it had spent its money on its people instead of on arming itself.
Rubio had said in remarks to "ABC" about the ongoing war that the U.S. administration is waging against Iran: "Imagine if Iran, instead of spending billions on weapons, had spent that money on its people; they would have a completely different country," pointing out that "the Iranians might want to move forward in a different direction with their new government."
In his response, Qalibaf borrowed the American minister's phrase, before adding to it a sharp and satirical formulation that revealed the true intention behind Rubio's proposition. He wrote on his "X" platform account: "Yes.. if they hadn’t spent their money on weapons, it would have been fantastic for us 'the Americans', and then we would have been able to enter and take over all the 'Iranian' oil fields within 48 hours..48 hours believe me.. and supply the Israelis with the best weapons to create more than a new Gaza (in Iran)".
And Qalibaf concluded his post with a decisive single sentence: This is the real American dream, gentlemen.. mere figments of imagination.. will never come true."
It is noted that the American-Israeli military operation against Iran has been ongoing since February 28, with Iran striking U.S. bases on the territory of regional countries and sites within Israel, in addition to closing the Strait of Hormuz to ships that Tehran considers affiliated with the attacking parties.
