Khaberni - The Turkish team clinched the qualification ticket for the 2026 World Cup finals after pulling off a hard-fought victory from the jaws of host Kosovo, with a goal to nil, in the encounter that took place this Tuesday evening at Fadil Vokrri Stadium, as part of the conclusion of the European playoffs qualifying for the global tournament.
The Kosovo team started strongly looking for an early goal to open the door for continuing their blue adventure towards a historic qualification to the World Cup for the first time in history, but the crossbar denied the home team the lead at the 29th minute when it took the place of goalkeeper Shakir to block a shot from Visnik Aslan.
The Turkish punishment came harshly at the 53rd minute, after Kenan Yildiz made a run down the left flank before he passed a magical ball to the advancing Orkun Koku who diverted it towards the goal before Kerim Akturkoglu finalized it as the qualifying goal, in a scene that required verification from the VAR technology to ensure that the Fenerbahce striker was not caught offside.
The Turkish national team subsequently joined the ranks of the qualifiers to the World Cup finals scheduled next June in the United States, Canada, and Australia, through the European playoffs gate, joining Group Four in the World Cup which includes; the United States (the host), Paraguay, and Australia.
The Turkish national team had secured a seat in the final scene of the European playoffs qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, after overcoming Romania with a clean goal signed by Ferdi Kadıoğlu, while the Kosovo team defeated Slovakia in a thrilling match with four goals to three.
