Official Holiday in Iraq on Wednesday and Thursday to Celebrate World Cup Qualification

Khaberni -  The Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani announced today, Wednesday, the suspension of official working hours throughout Iraq for Wednesday and Thursday in celebration of the Iraqi national team qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

Streets of Iraq witnessed joyful carnivals this Wednesday morning following the referee's final whistle at the end of the intercontinental playoff match, where Iraq triumphed over Bolivia with a score of two goals to one.

Iraqis carried Iraqi flags, parading through the streets while chanting folk songs to the rhythm of folk music and drums, as the streets were crowded with cars carrying Iraqi flags.

Iraqis praised the performance presented by the players of the Iraqi national team in this match, which took place in the city of Monterrey, Mexico, early this morning local time.

Sudani said, "We congratulate our noble people on the football achievement accomplished by the champions of our national team, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, and fulfilling the dream of our fans who have long awaited this significant achievement."
