Khaberni - Developments continue in the crisis of the film "Butcher of the Gathering" after it resumed showing following the deletion of scenes from it, simultaneous with the submission of an official report from the family of "Karim S", the actual accused in the case known in the media as "Butcher of the Gathering", filing an official complaint against the makers of the currently shown film, accusing them of insulting the family and exploiting the real incident unjustly.
Legal Adviser Habi Bashir, lawyer for Karim Salim, known as the "Butcher of the Gathering", made a record against El Sobky Production Company, and Mohamed Salah El Azb, director and writer of the cinematic work "Confessions of the Butcher of the Gathering".
Insult and defamation of his mother
And the lawyer Habi Bashir clarified in his statements that the reason for making the record is the defamation and insult against the mother of the accused Karim Salim, depicting her in a bad image contrary to the truth in front of the society, in addition to leaking information about an ongoing case before the judiciary and converting it into a shown cinematic film.
He mentioned in statements to the program "Tafaulkum" broadcasted on the channel "Al Arabiya" that the film did not adhere to conveying reality and respecting personal rights, but involved his mother and caused her harm without any legal basis, which is the main reason.
He added that the film implies the existence of a role or prior knowledge of the crimes and suggests poor upbringing, portrays the family as a cause, and holds its members moral responsibility unjustly, reveals information about their private lives without permission, presents the family in a negative and degrading manner and belittles them.
The mother expressed her detriment after watching the "film promo" for tarnishing her image and her negative role in his upbringing. Bashir confirmed that presenting such a case to the Egyptian society is rejected.
Regarding the details of the legal procedures, the lawyer for the family of the "Butcher of the Gathering" clarified that a record was submitted with number 2346 for the year 2026 at the Dokki Department, against the legal representative of El Sobky Production Company, and Mohamed Salah El Azb, director and writer of the cinematic work "Confessions of the Butcher of the Gathering".
He pointed out that the film displays images of the investigations, which is considered a violation of the documents, and the accused was still under trial.
Return of the film to theaters
The screenwriter and director, Mohamed Salah El Azb, had announced two days ago through his personal profile on the social network "Facebook", the return of his film "Butcher of the Gathering" to theaters, after obtaining censorship approval and resolving the issue with the Censorship Board on Artistic Works.
The High Appeals Committee, formed by a decision from Dr. Jihan Zaki, Minister of Culture, held a meeting to discuss the grievance submitted by producer Ahmed El Sobky, regarding the film "Butcher of the Gathering", objecting to the decision to ban it from showing and withdrawing its copies from cinemas. The decision to ban the film "Butcher of the Gathering" was issued by the head of Censorship on Artistic Works, writer Abdel Rahim Kamal, due to the production company and the filmmakers' non-compliance with the film's script and the dialogues approved by the censors, where the version shown included scenes and events that were not included in the authorized screenplay or the version submitted for the final license.
