Trump clarified, in remarks made aboard his plane on his way from Florida to Washington, that this step represents a "new gift," without providing further details about the nature of the agreement or its background, at a time when no immediate official comment was issued from Tehran.

He stated that he prefers "taking control of the oil" in Iran, pointing out that his country is considering options including taking control of Kharg Island, which is a major center for Iranian oil exports. He explained in a press interview that this option may require the presence of American forces on the island for a period, considering that Iranian defenses there are limited, while Washington continues to bolster its military presence in the Middle East by deploying thousands of troops.

Despite his escalating tone, Trump referred to progress in indirect talks with Tehran, setting a time limit to reach an agreement that ends the war, while scenarios of taking control of energy facilities remain fraught with high human and military costs and possibilities of exacerbating the global energy crisis.
