Revolution in iPhone Photography Apple Tests a 200Megapixel Camera

Khaberni - "Motorola" and "Samsung" were the first two smartphone manufacturers to adopt 200-megapixel cameras, and since then, other companies like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Honor have also adopted this technology.

According to one well-known leaker, Apple's next iPhones may be the next to receive this feature.

The leaker "Digital Chat Station" on the Chinese platform Weibo, claimed that "Apple" is evaluating a 200-megapixel camera sensor, citing "reliable sources from the supply chain," according to a report from "Android Authority," a website specializing in technology news.

Moreover, the mentioned 200-megapixel camera comes with a sensor size of 1/1.12 inches, indicating that it is the recently announced Sony "LYT-901" sensor.

"Vivo" has already confirmed that its upcoming X300 Ultra phone will use this sensor in its main camera. Meanwhile, "Oppo" is expected to use it as the main camera in the Find X9 Ultra phone.

The leaker stated that "Apple" had already been testing this sensor in the main camera.

The 200-megapixel camera sensor with a 1/1.12-inch size is significantly larger than the main camera with a 200-megapixel and 1/1.3-inch size found in Samsung's new flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The larger sensor allows the camera to receive more light, which means brighter and more detailed pictures with less noise.

The larger 200-megapixel sensor is also supposed to reduce noise in low-light conditions, as the increased light absorption means that the camera shutter does not need to stay open for long.

The main camera with a 200-megapixel resolution will allow lossless image zoom up to 4x.

Companies like "Samsung" allow capturing full 200-megapixel photos, which enables later cropping of the image while maintaining high quality. However, having a medium-range telephoto camera (from 3 to 5 times zoom) would be beneficial for obtaining higher quality zoom when using longer focal lengths.

It seems that "Apple" is currently only testing this 200-megapixel sensor, so, there is nothing to guarantee that it will provide this technology in a commercial iPhone. Nevertheless, the leaker indicates that this technology will be introduced for the first time in iPhones next year, which means it may appear with the iPhone 19 series.
