The Czech Republic confirmed today that "real autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the most practicable solution" for the dispute over the Sahara, emphasizing its intention to act according to this stance.
This was mentioned in the joint announcement issued following the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petr Makenka, who is making his first visit to the kingdom.
The announcement stated that the Czech ambassador to Morocco will visit the Sahara region in preparation for visits by Czech businessmen and support for joint economic initiatives. The embassy will also expand the scope of consular coverage to include the Sahara, similar to the rest of Moroccan territory, in alignment with the country's diplomatic, economic, and consular stance towards the issue.
The Czech Republic also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), affirming that the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco in 2007 is the most appropriate, serious, and realistic basis for achieving a fair and sustainable political solution acceptable to all parties.
Both ministers also reiterated their support for the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to the Sahara and his efforts to advance the political process forward, aiming to achieve a final political solution to this regional conflict.
