Khaberni - The Cairo Economic Court ruled today, Wednesday, to imprison the Egyptian media figure, Ahmed Ragab, for 6 months, in a case in which he is accused of insulting and slandering the artist Badriya Tolba and violating societal principles and values.
The court also decided to fine the famous media figure an amount of 50,000 Egyptian pounds and a bail of 10,000 pounds, along with a civil compensation of 20,000 pounds to the artist Badriya Tolba.
The public prosecution had referred Ahmed Ragab to trial last January, after a complaint filed by the artist Badriya Tolba accusing him of broadcasting content on his YouTube channel and social media sites that included phrases and words considered direct insults and slander against her, and an excessive departure from legitimate criticism.
The judgment was based on the Penal Code provisions related to public insult and slander, in addition to the Information Technology Crime Prevention Law.
Ahmed Ragab is a well-known Egyptian media figure who presents programs on YouTube and social platforms, having previously worked on several television channels. There was a dispute between him and the actress Badriya Tolba, who is widely present in TV and cinema drama.
The disputes between the two intensified after a series of comments and videos broadcast by Ragab, which Tolba considered disgraceful and damaging to her reputation. The court held several sessions to hear witnesses and the arguments of the defense and prosecution before issuing the judgment today.
