Food and Drug Administration Warns Against Unlicensed Candy Shaped Like Cigarettes

Khaberni - The General Food and Drug Administration warned of an unlicensed candy product being sold in the shape of cigarettes, noting that the institution does not allow its circulation and that it has entered the market through illegal methods under names like candy or snacks, without being introduced through the official accredited channels properly.

The institution explained in a press release that the specialized control and inspection teams continue to carry out ongoing and extensive field campaigns to investigate the product, leading to the seizure of a quantity of the product in one of the facilities, its reservation and the closure of the facility, and the investigation operations are still ongoing to ensure the local market is free of it, noting that all products sold as candies are subject to a specialized technical committee before their importation to study their compliance with the Jordanian technical rules and the instructions issued in this regard.

The institution added that it is working in coordination with the relevant authorities, including the Customs Department, to tighten control over border crossings to prevent the entry of the mentioned product, as part of the collaborative efforts to protect the health of citizens, especially children, noting that all products that carry, in any form, promotional indications of tobacco or smoking products are prohibited from display and trading according to the provisions of the Public Health Law No. (47) for the year 2008 and its amendments, and anyone proven to be trading them will be penalized according to the law.
