Khaberni - Jordan has contracted with Syria to import 400 tons of slaughtered red meat "sheep", according to Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat.
Khreisat said, in statements to "Al Mamlaka" TV on Tuesday, that Syrian sheep meat has begun entering the Jordanian markets.
He explained that 40% of Jordan's red meat needs are produced domestically, and the remaining percentage is imported from other sources.
He affirmed that there is self-sufficiency in poultry and table eggs, adding that the poultry production input stockpile of feed is sufficient for more than 100 days and that supplies continue uninterrupted.
Last month, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the resumption of importing fresh meat from the Zablatani slaughterhouse in Damascus, through the electronic platform approved by the ministry, and according to the regulations and instructions governing import operations.
The Ministry explained that the decision comes as part of its commitment to enhance the strategic stockpile of red meat in the local market, which contributes to the stability of supplies and meets market needs.
