Ali Gomaa Womens work is religiously permissible but child rearing is a priority

Khaberni - Dr. Ali Gomaa, the former Grand Mufti of Egypt and a member of Al-Azhar’s Senior Scholars Authority, clarified that women’s work is religiously permissible, but it is conditional on her family duties and the priority of raising children.

He pointed out in the program "Noor Al-Deen and the Youth," which is shown during Ramadan, that raising children has become a daunting task due to the increasing external influences that compete with the family's role.

He emphasized that motherhood and educational care are noble tasks that are as important as any professional achievement.

Gomaa mentioned that Islamic law granted women financial independence and did not obligate her to provide dowry or financial care which is mandated for men, thus protecting her essential role at home and providing space to care for the family and the emerging generation.

He added that a woman's choice to work is originally permissible, but achieving balance between work and family responsibilities is essential, taking into consideration the impact on children and the family’s stability.

Dr. Ali Gomaa affirmed that the issue is not about a conflict between home and work, and it does not undermine women, but it is a call for understanding life realistically. Nurturing humans, preserving families and raising generations are among the highest tasks that uplift societies and build nations.
