Khaberni - The High State Security Prosecession in Egypt decided to refer 16 suspects, including leaders and officials at the National Social Insurance Authority, to the criminal court for trial on charges of receiving bribes and exploiting public office.
The referral decision comes in case no. 2725 of the year 2024, exclusive to high state security, where the prosecution accused the suspects of manipulating the value of insurance claims owed to the authority in favor of private companies and establishments, in exchange for monetary amounts as bribes.
The list of suspects includes officials in the offices and insurance area of Sixth of October, among them the head of the technical guidance department, the head of the administrative detention department, the head of the contracting unit, a financial auditor, an insurance office manager, a sector head, and an information section employee, positions that supervise the examination and follow-up of insurance claims for companies.
The list also included representatives from the private sector, among them a tax department official at a private factory, a financial and administrative manager at a well-known language school, and an accounts auditor at a company belonging to the private sector, as well as lawyers and legal accountants accused of mediating in bribing.
The prosecution mentioned that there are 3 fugitive suspects on the list, and ordered their arrest and provisional detention pending investigations.
The public prosecution attributed to the suspects crimes of bribery, intermediation in it, and offering it to public officials to breach their duties, based on articles 103, 104, 107 repeated, and 110 of the Penal Code.
The decision was made to refer the case to a first-degree criminal court within the Cairo Court of Appeals' circuit for consideration, with lawyers appointed to defend the accused. The first trial session is expected to begin in the upcoming period.
