The Prime Minister holds a meeting to discuss facilitating the procedures for handling shipping and clearance at Aqaba ports

Khaberni - Prime Minister Jafar Hassan held a meeting at the Prime Minister's House on Sunday, dedicated to discussing facilitating the procedures for handling, shipping, and clearance at the Aqaba ports to ensure overcoming the emergency challenges in the upcoming period.

The meeting is part of the meetings held by the Prime Minister to discuss the procedures related to sustaining the supply and supply chains and enhancing the strategic stock sufficiently and sustainably.

The Prime Minister emphasized in the meeting, which was attended by several ministers and relevant officials, the necessity of high readiness and coordination between all relevant parties to facilitate the procedures of handling, clearance, and shipping of goods and commodities.

Officials from Aqaba ports, land transport, and customs confirmed that the handling, shipping, and clearance operations in the ports are conducted with high efficiency and effectiveness, as they reviewed the measures taken in this regard.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Transport, Industry and Trade and Supply, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Director General of Customs, the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, and the CEO of the Aqaba Container Terminal.

Last week, the Cabinet had made decisions that included stopping the work on the decision to restrict the import of containerized goods at Aqaba port, and allowing their import through the Jordanian land border crossings for a month; with the aim of ensuring the prompt delivery of urgent shipments of goods, and also including all goods arriving through sea shipping in the exemptions from customs duties and taxes accrued from increased shipping fees, for a period of six months, including general and special sales tax.
