China warns of global chip shortage amid escalating dispute over Nexperia company

Khaberni - The Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Saturday raised the possibility of another crisis in the global semiconductor supply chain due to "new disputes" between the Dutch chip manufacturing company Nexperia and its Chinese unit.

Production disruptions occurred in the global automotive sector in October when Beijing imposed restrictions on the export of Chinese-made Nexperia chips after the Netherlands acquired the company from its Chinese parent company Wingtech. Nexperia chips are widely used in automotive electronic systems.

While the chip shortage eased after diplomatic negotiations, the conflict intensified between Nexperia's headquarters in the Netherlands and its branch in China, according to "Reuters".

Beijing's warning came on Saturday, a day after the Chinese packaging branch accused Nexperia's headquarters in the Netherlands of disrupting the work accounts of all employees in China.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement published on its official website "(This) has sparked new disputes and created new difficulties and obstacles for negotiations (between the two companies)."

The ministry added: "Nexperia has severely hindered the production and operational processes of the company, and if this leads to another global crisis in semiconductor production and supply chain, then the Netherlands must bear full responsibility for it."
