Study Links Vitamin C with Lower Blood Pressure

Khaberni - A recent scientific study has shown that taking vitamin C supplements may help reduce systolic blood pressure levels in adults.
The researchers came to these conclusions after analyzing data from 17 randomized clinical trials, the results of which were compiled in several systematic medical reviews, and showed that taking vitamin C can reduce systolic blood pressure by an average of 3.7 millimeters of mercury. Systolic blood pressure is the top number in a blood pressure reading, which measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts and pumps blood.

As for diastolic blood pressure, which refers to the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats when the heart is resting, the analysis did not show a noticeable overall decrease among all healthy participants who took vitamin C supplements, but scientists noticed that taking this vitamin contributed to lower diastolic blood rates by an average of 2.3 millimeters of mercury in diabetic patients.

The researchers indicated that the results they arrived at might be significant for discovering new ways to care for heart and cardiovascular health, but there is a need for more clinical studies to determine the potential therapeutic effect of vitamin C.

Many medical studies suggest that vitamin C contributes to supporting the immune system and protecting the body from infections, as well as enhancing the absorption of iron in the body.
