Sources to Reuters Khameneis son survived a USIsraeli attack on Iran

Khaberni -    Two Iranian sources told Reuters on Wednesday that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei, survived the American and Israeli air raids that killed his father.

The sources added that the ruling religious establishment considers him as a potential successor to his father.

Mojtaba, a cleric with close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, is one of the most influential figures in the Iranian religious establishment. He has been considered one of the main candidates to succeed his father for years.

One of the sources said, "He (Mojtaba) is alive... He was not in Tehran at the time of the assassination of the Supreme Leader."

Ali Khamenei was killed on Saturday in American-Israeli attacks on targets in Iran, along with a group of other military and influential figures who also died.

The Iranian official media announced Khamenei's death early Sunday. A senior Israeli official told Reuters that the body of the Iranian leader was found.

US President Donald Trump said that the United States had cooperated closely with Israel to target the man who had been leading Iran since 1989.
