Cybersecurity No Direct Warning Messages on Jordanians Phones

Khaberni -   The National Cybersecurity Center announced that it will not send any messages to Jordanians' phones at this stage, noting that any awareness or warning messages issued by the center or other official institutions will be published through official statements issued by the Directorate of Public Security and its media spokesperson.

It explained that this precautionary measure comes in light of the attempts of hacking and cyberattacks the Kingdom faces, some of which may use the name of the center or other official entities through text messages or electronic platforms and social media for the purpose of misleading and hacking.

In a statement, the center urged citizens at this stage not to deal with any fake warning messages or links that falsely use the name of the center or any other official institution, and to consider any messages that reach them as hacking and intrusion.

The center also urged the citizens to follow the following preventive instructions to avoid cyber attacks, hacking, or electronic fraud:

1. Do not open any links (Links) or attachments that come through text messages (SMS) or communication apps, especially those that claim to have "security updates" or "prizes" or "financial aid". Never share passwords or credit card details through any message or phone call, regardless of how official the contact appears. We confirm that official security circulars are issued exclusively through the trusted channels of the Directorate of Public Security and the official government platforms with the domain (jo).

2. Limit the downloading and updating of your applications to the accredited stores (Google Play, App Store).
3. Additional preventive steps:

• Activate two-factor authentication (2FA): We recommend activating the "two-factor verification" feature on all social media accounts and banking applications to ensure additional protection.
* Backup: Regularly keep a backup of your important data away from your internet-connected device.

Your awareness and adherence to these guidelines is the fundamental pillar for enhancing national cybersecurity.
