Tunisia Upheld prison sentences up to 28 years against Ali Larayedh and prominent security and political leaders

Khaberni - The Court of Appeal in Tunisia issued prison sentences between 3 and 24 years against defendants in the "facilitation" case to tension zones.

The specialized criminal chamber for terrorism cases at the Court of Appeal in Tunisia issued its sentences late Thursday against the defendants in what is media known as the "facilitation" case, ranging from 3 to 24 years in prison, according to a judicial source confirmed to Tunisia Africa News Agency.

The case included a number of prominent political and security figures, among them the former Prime Minister and former Minister of the Interior Ali Larayedh, the former head of the Aircraft Protection Unit Abdelkarim El Abidi, the spokesman for the "Ansar al-Sharia" group Saifeddine Raies, and several other accused.

The court sentenced Ali Larayedh to 24 years in prison (initially sentenced to 34 years), Fathi Baldi to 22 years (initially 26 years), Abdelkarim El Abidi to 22 years (initially 26 years), Nour al-Din Quanduz to 28 years (initially 36 years), Lotfi al-Humami to 24 years (initially 28 years), Hisham al-Saadi to 24 years (initially 36 years), Sami al-Shaar to 6 years (initially 18 years), and Saifeddine Raies to 3 years (initially 24 years), with each being placed under administrative surveillance for five (5) years for all except Sami al-Shaar and Saifeddine Raies, who will be under for two years starting from the date the sentence is served or expires.

The initial sentences in what is known as the "facilitation" case were issued in May 2025 and ranged from 18 to 36 years in prison, with all sentenced individuals placed under administrative surveillance for 5 years.
