Khaberni - The Public Prosecutor's Office in Egypt has decided to refer the young man accused of harassing a girl inside a public bus in Cairo to urgent criminal trial after widespread debate about the reality of the incident and the exchange of accusations.
The prosecutor's decision came today, Thursday, after completing investigations into the incident, which the victim had documented with her mobile phone. However, eyewitnesses denied her version of events, stating that the young man did not approach her; this caused division and widespread controversy on social media platforms.
The details of the incident go back to a report made by a girl stating that she was subjected to verbal harassment and stalking by the accused while leaving her workplace, with the young man following her until she boarded the public bus. The complainant filmed the accused and posted the video on her personal account seeking help.
The security forces succeeded in identifying the suspect after reviewing surveillance camera footage and tracking his route, detaining him, and upon confronting him, the prosecution commenced an investigation that concluded with his referral to criminal trial on charges of harassing a woman in a public place.
Earlier, the investigating authorities had decided to release the young man accused of harassment on bail amounting to 1000 Egyptian pounds pending the case.
