Officially The Moroccan Union Resolves the Controversy Around the Future of Coach Walid Regragui

Khaberni - The Moroccan Royal Football Federation has put an end to the rumors circulating about the future of coach Walid Regragui after it issued an official statement denying his separation from the team "Lions of the Atlas".
The federation confirmed in a concise statement that the news circulating about Regragui's departure "has no basis in truth", emphasizing his continuation in his duties at the helm of the national team’s technical staff.

The statement came in response to a wave of media reports that talked about the imminent end of Regragui's journey with the team, even going so far as to say that he has informed some close associates of his reluctance to lead the team during the 2026 World Cup, scheduled in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speculations were also raised following the loss of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, which increased the criticism directed at the coach, despite the historic achievement he made by leading Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In the midst of the controversy, reports circulated names of possible successors, including the Spanish Xavi Hernandez, but sources close to him indicated that there was no official agreement, with a preference to delay deciding his future until after the upcoming World Cup.

The Moroccan national team is set to play a friendly match against the Ecuadorian team on March 27th in Madrid, as part of its preparations for upcoming commitments.
