Hassan Keeping the fiveyear gap or 60 contributions between women and men in early retirement

Khaberni - Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan confirmed during a cabinet session that the government has adjusted the draft Social Security law draft to ensure no impairment to any entitlements of early, mandatory or voluntary retirement over the next four years whatsoever.

The Prime Minister clarified that the implementation of the law will begin in 2030 gradually and over the following ten years, and until 2040 for mandatory retirement for both males and females, meaning that it will not be fully applied until 14 years after its enactment if it is approved this year.

He pointed out that the implementation of early and voluntary retirement will also begin after 2030 gradually, and until 2047 for males and 2041 for females, indicating that the full application will be after 21 years for males and 15 years for females concerning early and voluntary retirement.

He referred to maintaining the five-year gap, or 60 contributions, between women and men in early retirement as previously practiced, and the same applies to mandatory retirement.

The Prime Minister emphasized that protecting citizens' rights is a fundamental priority that must be fully considered, noting that the amendments came after consulting with parliamentary groups and taking into account feedback received through the Legislation and Opinion Bureau’s website from experts and citizens, in addition to observations presented by the deputies.

He confirmed that the government is open to any proposals to improve the law project through parliament committees and their members, emphasizing complete cooperation with the parliament and its committees to achieve the primary goal of protecting Social Security subscribers, and not to interfere with its investments or profits, relying exclusively on subscription income to be a solid base for future pensions and a sustainable foundation for them.

He explained that the law project will keep procedures to support the governance of the Public Institution for Social Security and restructure it, to be according to the model of the Central Bank of Jordan in terms of autonomy in decision-making.
