Jordan Advances 19 Points in the Women Business and Law Index Over 5 Years

Khaberni - Jordan has advanced 19 points in just 5 years in the Women, Business and Law Index, by adopting the legislative reforms approach that enhanced the status of Jordanian women as one of the important drivers of the economy, issued by the World Bank.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, during the participation of the Minister of Social Development and chair of the ministerial committee for women’s empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, in the launching event of the Women, Business and Law Report 2026, using video conferencing technology, as part of the discussion session: Legal Reforms and Necessary Procedures to Accelerate the Pace of Inclusive Growth for All, organized by the World Bank in Washington.

Bani Mustafa stated that improving Jordan's ranking in the Women, Business and Law Index is among the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision, which was launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II, where Jordan, with His Majesty's support and guidance, has progressed by 19 points in the Women, Business and Law Index over just five years, by adopting a legislative reforms approach that enhanced the status of Jordanian women as one of the important drivers of the economy.

She added that among the most prominent achievements are the amendments made to the Constitution, which ensured the empowerment of women and their protection from all forms of violence and discrimination, and the labor law that improved the working environment by supporting childcare and prohibiting wage discrimination.

Bani Mustafa also pointed to progress in the field of women's entrepreneurship in Jordan, where the company law was amended to ensure a representation of women on company boards at 20% ratio, contributing to enhancing their access to high economic positions and benefiting from financial and banking services.

She emphasized that Jordanian women possess the energies and efficiencies that must be capitalized on by enhancing their capabilities in the field of entrepreneurship and emerging businesses and participating in leadership positions, which benefits the overall economy.
She stressed the need to support women's economic participation, for its effective and sustainable impact on development and its positive implications for growth.
