Khaberni - Businessman and Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris commented on the request for briefing submitted to the Egyptian House of Representatives to stop the broadcast of the Ramadan prank show "Ramez Level Al Wahsh," hosted by artist Ramez Galal.
Mahmoud El-Manoufi, a member of the Egyptian House of Representatives, accused in the briefing request he submitted to the parliament to stop the program "Ramez Level Al Wahsh" of promoting bullying, violence, physical and psychological harm, undermining societal values, and spreading negative ideas, especially towards Egyptian women.
In response to the parliamentary request, Sawiris made a sharp comment via his official account on the "X" platform, stating: "Banning is not the solution! Those who don't like it have the democratic tool of the remote control to change the channel or not watch it at all, like myself."
Sawiris affirmed that the solution lies in individual choice freedom, not in official prohibition, noting that he personally does not watch the show and changes the channel.
The prank show "Ramez Level Al Wahsh" is broadcast daily during Ramadan on MBC Egypt channel right after the Maghrib prayer call, achieving high viewership ratings as usual with Ramez Galal's annual Ramadan shows.
In its first episodes, the program hosted celebrities like Ghada Abdel Razek, Asmaa Galal, and Hana El Zahed, alongside artist Mostafa Gharib as a guest in the fourth episode, with pranks including both scary and comedic situations.
Despite its popularity, the program faces recurring criticism annually due to introductions by Ramez Galal, which some see as excesses and insults, in addition to elements of psychological or physical harm in the pranks.
Ramez Galal's Ramadan prank shows have become an annual phenomenon in Egyptian drama for years, achieving high viewership ratings each season thanks to the thrill and comedy, but they always face accusations of bullying and ethical breaches, leading to parliamentary or media demands to stop or modify them.
