Blair Talks about Disarmament and Israeli Supervision of Gaza Police

Khaberni - Tony Blair, a member of the Executive Council for the "Peace Council," revealed that Israel will examine the new police force in Gaza to ensure "proper governance".

Blair made statements to the Israeli channel "i24 News" on the sidelines of the inaugural summit of the "Peace Council" in the capital Washington last Thursday, saying that US President Donald Trump is fully committed to Israel's security and is seeking to improve the conditions of the Palestinian people at the same time.

Disarming the Resistance
Blair explained that the plan in Gaza is primarily based on disarming the resistance in Gaza and dismantling its military capabilities, and ensuring the transfer of governance to a "technocrat committee" endowed with full powers.

He clarified that 5 "moderate" Islamic countries agreed to send personnel to the international stabilization force while other countries pledged $7 billion for reconstruction.

He noted that there is real momentum due to financial commitments and providing personnel and support for civilian police enforcement, emphasizing that the "Peace Council" initiative does not aim to replace the United Nations, but to complement existing UN resolutions on Gaza with an alliance-led approach.

Despite Blair's optimism, he did not overlook the existing complexities, especially "ongoing doubts within Israel" and potential concerns about participation of countries like Turkey in these arrangements.

Blair stated that almost all participating countries provided varied contributions from financial support to troops or capacity building, confirming that "the door is open for other countries to participate".

Hamas' Position
Earlier, a leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Moussa Abu Marzouk, affirmed that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements on linking the reconstruction of Gaza to the disarmament of the resistance reflect pure electoral motives, noting that the movement has not discussed or agreed on any formula for handover or disarmament of its weapons.

Abu Marzouk told Al Jazeera Mubasher’s evening program, "Netanyahu continuously talks about the weapons issue, but if this weapon is present in Gaza, why does Israel continue to arm Palestinian groups outside the law?", adding that any external intervention to disarm is not among the duties of the international stabilization forces.

About the former US president's plan, Abu Marzouk clarified that any clauses related to weapons consisted of multiple formulas, ranging from freezing to disarmament, and have not yet been formally presented at the negotiating table. He emphasized that the movement prioritized stopping the war and protecting the populace, not surrendering the weapons.

The "Peace Council" is an entity launched by Trump and held its first meetings in Washington with representatives from about 50 countries.

Trump announced the allocation of $10 billion for the Peace Council to fund the reconstruction of Gaza, considering this amount small compared to the extent of destruction, according to American newspapers.

The commander of the "International Stabilization Force" in Gaza, General Jasper Jeevers, committed that 5 countries: Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania will send troops to work within the international force.

Criticisms were directed at the first conference because it was held without real Palestinian attendance that reflects the national will, while the Israeli side participated as a member of the council to discuss the future of the Palestinians in Gaza.
