Khaberni - The Director of Market Surveillance at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Atef Alawnah, stated on Thursday that the ministry has intensified its supervisory rounds with the beginning of Ramadan, pointing out that the ministry observed up to the afternoon of the first day of Ramadan 18 violations, most of which were focused on the lack of price announcements.
Alawnah explained in statements to Al Mamlaka TV, that field observations showed stability in prices, especially for poultry and some types of vegetables, except for a slight increase in some items like zucchini and cucumber due to their price increase in the central market.
He revealed that the ministry continuously monitors the violations of non-disclosure of prices, confirming that most traders comply with the regulations in effect.
Alawnah explained that the high demand during Ramadan sometimes accompanied by a slight increase in prices due to increased demand and some traders raising prices, drawing attention to the fact that the prices of vegetables and fruits are seasonal, and rise slightly if they are out of season, with expectations of a decrease later.
He indicated that the available quantities of poultry are sufficient and the prices are stable, noting that the production is intensive, which supports the expectations of a price decrease in the coming days, affirming that poultry prices have dropped in the provinces from their previous levels, while still stable in Amman.
In terms of market movement, Alawnah noted that shopping activity is delayed by some citizens to just before Iftar, except for goods associated with the holy month, such as juices before Iftar time.
