The European Union officially lists the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist entity

Khaberni - The Council of the European Union decided on Thursday to list the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization within the European Union, following the political consensus reached by the Foreign Affairs Council on January 29th.

Under the decision, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard will be subject to restrictive measures within the European Union's terrorism sanctions regime, including the freezing of its funds and other financial assets and economic resources within the member states, in addition to prohibiting entities operating in the European Union from providing any funds or economic resources to it.

The Council clarified that this decision increases the number of individuals and entities subject to restrictive measures under what is known as the "European Union Terrorism List" to 13 individuals and 23 groups and entities.

The European terrorism list is considered a system independent from the sanction system used to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions related to Al-Qaeda and ISIS organizations.

The statement also confirmed that the European Union reserves the right to impose unilateral restrictive measures on ISIS and Al-Qaeda organizations, as well as on individuals and entities associated with or supporting them.
