Khaberni - Russia said today, Thursday, that there is an unprecedented escalation of tension around Iran as the United States transfers military assets to the Middle East, and the Kremlin urged both Tehran and "the other parties" to be cautious and exercise restraint.
The United States deployed warships near Iran, while negotiations with Tehran are underway regarding limiting its nuclear program.
Russia has a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, but it does not include a mutual defense clause. The Russian Ministry of Defense mentioned that a Russian warship conducted maneuvers with the Iranian Navy in the Gulf of Oman this week.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "These are planned maneuvers that were coordinated in advance. Russia continues to develop its relations with Iran, and therefore, we call on our Iranian friends and all parties in the region to exercise restraint and caution, and we urge them to prioritize political and diplomatic means in resolving any issues."
He added, "Currently, we are indeed witnessing an unprecedented escalation of tension in the region. However, we still expect that political, diplomatic means and negotiations will prevail in seeking a resolution."
