Iran insists that the talks should focus exclusively on the nuclear issue, which Western countries suspect is aimed at developing nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran consistently denies.
Washington, on its part, insisted on the necessity of discussing Iran's ballistic program and support for armed groups in the region at the negotiation table.
On February 6, the United States and Iran conducted a round of indirect talks in Oman, which was their first since the Iran-Israel war in June, in which the United States participated with strikes on nuclear facilities.
