Young Man in Spain Books Luxury Hotel Rooms for One Cent Only

Khaberni - The Spanish police announced that they stopped a 20-year-old man on suspicion of hacking a website, through which he booked luxury rooms in hotels for just one cent, in the first cybercrime of its kind.

The police also explained today, Wednesday, that "this cyber attack specifically targeted altering the payment verification system, and this is the first time a crime using this method has been discovered."

Furthermore, the police added that the young man also consumed contents of the "mini bar" during his stay, and sometimes left unpaid bills.

Upon his arrest, the young man was staying in a luxury hotel in Madrid, booked for four nights with a total value of 4000 euros.

It is believed that the suspect manipulated the website's electronic payment system, making modifications to the payment verification mechanism, so that the bookings appeared fully paid.

But all he actually paid was a very nominal amount limited to one cent for rooms that cost about 1000 euros per night.
